No, you don’t need a referral. In some cases a GP can provide a referral to help claim a portion of the cost through Medicare, so it’s best to check eligibility with your GP first.
You’ll discuss your medical history, goals and limitations. The exercise physiologist will then create a personalised treatment and exercise plan based on what you’d like to achieve.
Yes, programs are adapted to all ages and fitness levels based on specific assessments and testing, always ensuring safety is paramount.
It depends on your goals and needs. Sessions may be more frequent initially and taper as you progress, your exercise physiologist will recommend the best cadence for your outcome.
It focuses on strengthening muscles and improving mobility to aid injury prevention and post-injury rehabilitation, empowering you to build healthy habits for long-term wellbeing.
Absolutely. It’s best to see our physiotherapists straight after your operation in the acute healing period; they’ll then refer you on to exercise physiology to transition you back to what you love. Ideally you’ll work with both during the acute stage, then continue with your exercise physiologist at end-stage for a successful recovery.
Exercise physiologists develop targeted exercises to alleviate chronic pain by improving muscle function and joint mobility, alongside specific advice and education. Hydrotherapy can also be used as a modality to reduce pain and increase mobility.
Yes, virtual sessions are available through a safe, secure video platform. Your exercise physiologist will perform an assessment, provide treatment, and prescribe an online exercise rehabilitation program for you to complete at home between consults.
Exercise physiologists typically hold degrees in exercise science or related fields, along with certifications in clinical exercise physiology.
Comfortable workout attire and athletic shoes are recommended. Bringing water and any necessary medical information is also helpful.

An Allied Health Assistant is a trained team member who works under the direction of a physiotherapist, occupational therapist or exercise physiologist to deliver parts of your therapy program, so you get more frequent support between clinician sessions.
AHAs support prescribed exercise programs, mobility and transfer practice, daily living routines, equipment use, community access practice and general therapy follow-through, all guided by your treating clinician’s plan.
AHA sessions are charged at a lower rate than a senior clinician, so your funding stretches further. You keep clinician oversight for assessment and planning while receiving more regular hands-on support from your AHA.

Yes, AHA supports are commonly funded through NDIS plans, and are also available to Support at Home, NIISQ, DVA and private clients.
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a government initiative supporting individuals with permanent and significant disabilities. NDIS provides funding for supports that enhance your daily living and community participation.
